A Record Setting Year
A few months ago when national exam results came out, to our delight we found that our young scholars at Akiba School had scored better than ever before – considerably lifting the academic reputation of the school. You can imagine not only were our students excited, but so their parents, and especially the teachers. When students do well academically that is a direct result of excellent teaching skills and teacher motivation. Soon after those exam results came out we had a board meeting, where we decided we should celebrate by having a Founders Day to honor Edith Gitao, the founder, so we set a date.
We invited the parents, the alums, the pastor of Saint Mark’s Church in Westlands, where the Gitao’s attended as a family, and even the local Member of Parliament, who unfortunately was to be out of town during that day. The board were there and most exciting, three of the Gitao children attended. (Philip has been a part of us for a long time, but sister Winnie and younger brother, Sospeter, hadn’t been to the school in years.). Winnie was in tears when she saw what had taken place and quietly said to me, I’d like to make a gift to help toward meeting the costs of painting the school! We’re still working on that project, but a turn-around has begun.
With the improved academic performance, parents are coming almost every week inquiring as to whether they might be able to enroll their children at Akiba. And, on top of that, word came the other day that the school is now is the best performing school in the Kangemi area.
Please rejoice with us as we move into the future. We are immensely appreciative for all of you. Below area a variety of photos from the Founder’s Day celebration:
All praise to Jesus, for helping us all to stay the course.

Board Chairman, Akiba School
