The year 2016 was full of faith, laughter, and friendship at Akiba School. Here are some key highlights from student life and activities at Akiba:
- Primary school pupils visited Theta Farm in Gatundu where they learned about coffee farming and processing.
- Akiba School Students held a talent show and exhibited their abilities and talents in various fields including singing, modeling, dancing, acting, and more.
- History students participated in a memorial for victims of torture during the colonial period by British authorities at an event organized by Kenya Human Right Commission.
- Secondary students visited the William Holden Wildlife Foundation in Nanyuki where they learned about wildlife and environment conservation.
- Primary school pupils took swimming lessons at Splash Water Park in Nairobi.
- Students held debates on various issues such as women empowerment, human rights, gender equality, the cause of problems in families, peer influence, drug abuse, and moral decay among the youth.
- Students participated in a mentorship program organized by Westlands Member of Parliament Hon. Tim Wanyonyi.
- Teaching and non-teaching staff attended several retreats and team building sessions.
- The school participated in an academic conference at Kenya Teachers Training college in Gigiri.
10. The school organized a medical camp for all the students and their parents and siblings in collaboration with Gertrude Children’s Hospital.
11. Student leaders from Akiba visited State House and learned from the First Lady and various government leaders about leadership and service.
12. Student academic performance saw marked improvements, including a mean score of C+ on the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education.
